Gene Marks says financial institutions are changing their forecasts and the holiday season might be a good one for businesses. Despite the rosy numbers there, layoffs continue in tech and the financial fields, but Gene sees this as a plus for the talent pool for smaller businesses. There will be extra money in the pockets of employees in the healthcare industry in California as a new law puts the minimum wage at $25 an hour, but it’s going to hurt businesses. The IRS announces a moratorium on reviewing any ERTC claims received after Sept. 13, 2023, until the new year, although businesses can continue to file. Basically, expect delays in the process. Some good news: the rate of entrepreneurship is rising in the U.S., led by women and people of color, according to study by Babson College that shows 19% of adults is starting a business or has done so. If people want to work, the jobs are there, especially in service industry such as leisure and hospitality. Gene Marks suggests businesses be ready to offer competitive salaries and the right benefits to land employees.
